BUILDER story – Bubble Of Doom
From what we can piece together, Bubble of Doom wasn’t always a Mothman cultist. In fact, older wanderers swear that Bubble once roamed the wastes with far less purpose, drifting from settlement to settlement like a stray gust of wind. While no one really knows for sure WHAT they were doing before, we’ve all heard the tale of how their story “really” started, passed around campfires in the dead of night as if speaking it too loudly might summon something winged from the darkness.
One day they were out and about in the wastes when they were attacked by something that they just couldn’t fight off for the life of ’em, a creature so vicious and relentless that Bubble barely had time to process what was happening. The ground shook, the air filled with snarls, and it seemed certain they’d be ripped apart—when all of a sudden Mothman came to their rescue and fought the creature for them. Witnesses claim the sky went still, the shadows shifted, and the flutter of enormous wings drowned out every other sound. Convinced beyond any reasoning that Mothman came in to save them specifically, Bubble of Doom decided to dedicate their life to the so-called savior, clinging to the moment as if it had carved its way into their very soul.
Now, what we’ve seen with our own eyes is that they have a particular penchant for making shrines in honor of their favorite insectoid. These shrines range from simple piles of glowing fungus to towering, chaotic constructions of bones, candles, and scrap metal that hum faintly in the dark. Some even seem warm to the touch, as if recently visited by something not entirely earthly.
Be careful if you spot one while out adventuring; who knows what might show up while you’re there. Travelers tell stories of the air growing unusually still around these shrines, of soft clicking noises echoing through trees, and of distant red eyes observing from high perches. Whether these tales are warnings or invitations… well, that’s for you to find out.
But if his devotion is legendary, it is only rivaled by his meticulous obsession with camp building. Bubble of Doom constructs with a precision that defies sense and a style that defies physics. His camps are labyrinths of rusted metal, dangling lights, teetering platforms, and contraptions welded together in ways no sane engineer could justify. What begins as a simple staircase becomes an Escher-like spiral; a cooking station becomes a shrine; a generator becomes a throbbing, humming altar. Visitors frequently stand in awe—or confusion—trying to understand how any of it stays upright. Many swear his builds shift subtly when unobserved, their geometry rearranging itself like the world turning inside out.
Those who step foot into Bubble of Doom’s territory should proceed with great caution. Stories circulate of wanderers leaving his camp feeling disoriented, questioning their memories, or doubting the very rules of reality. Some claim his structures induce a kind of “spatial vertigo,” others that the Mothman’s presence lingers so heavily that perception itself wavers. Whether these accounts are superstition or truth matters little—travelers know his camp is not for the faint of heart. To visit Bubble of Doom is to risk losing your grip on what’s real… but for those brave enough, it’s an unforgettable glimpse into the mind of one of Fallout 76’s most enigmatic creators.
