Spring House caught my eye because it looked like somebody had kept repairing it rather than giving up. Rad Rux has set a steep roof over patched walls, with a small porch, worn steps and planting beds along the front. The Forest has been kind enough to lend the place some green.

Inside are the ordinary things a home ought to have: a table, a kitchen, a sitting room and a bathroom. None of it is polished new. The surprise is downstairs, where plants have taken hold around the equipment and an enormous yellow flower fills part of the old basement.

I have worked on enough houses to know that keeping one habitable is a continuing job. This one wears its repairs openly. Rux has left space for the growth beneath it as well as the people above, and I found that more interesting than a room full of spotless new furniture.
