The oven was the first thing that held my attention at Blast Radius Pizza. Rad Rux has given Burning Springs a narrow little shop with a counter downstairs and his own rooms above it. Bright yellow trim runs around the outside, making the patched metal walls easy to pick out from the road.

Inside, the pizza sits on a broad brick oven shelf, with stools lined up along the open serving window. Upstairs is a much more personal collection of workbenches, worn furniture, appliances and keepsakes. It is the sort of place where the owner does not have far to go when the day's work is finished.

The name is a little alarming for a supper stop, but I saw more care than danger in the kitchen. A hot meal and a roof over the cook's head are sensible things to put under one roof. Rux has made room for both without pretending the old materials are anything other than what they are.
