MOTHGULLS
Even cult members need a place in which to rest their head during the day, and for Bubble of Doom that place is Mothgulls.
An old, abandoned ship that they dressed stern to bow in idols of the Mothman, there’s not a corner you can turn to here that won’t have you face to face with some statue or figurine of Bubble’s favorite flying deity. It really is a place for only the most dedicated of his followers. And Mothman himself seems to think Bubble of Doom is one of those followers, as if you muck around these waters long enough, the creature will make himself present.
What most wanderers don’t realize is that Mothgulls wasn’t always a floating shrine. Long before Bubble of Doom claimed it, this vessel drifted silently along the fog banks of the Mire—creaking, groaning, and whispering as if something unseen paced its rotted halls. Locals used to swear they could hear wings brushing the railings at night, or see two soft points of red light hovering just above the deck. It was Bubble who first stepped aboard without hesitation, fearless as ever, declaring the ship “already blessed” before any of his followers even set foot on its planks.
Since then, Mothgulls has become a labyrinth of handcrafted relics, totems, and runes carved by trembling hands during midnight rituals. The air inside smells faintly of damp rope, old incense, and the lingering sweetness of glowing firefly jars hung from the beams. Every so often the candles blow out all at once, though the ship is sealed tight from the wind. Bubble calls this “a sign of approval.” Others call it a warning.
Visitors claim the ship seems to breathe; the timbers pulse with subtle vibrations, and the walls feel warm to the touch—as if Mothman’s presence saturates the hull itself. More than one initiate has turned back after hearing the soft flutter of wings in a room they knew was empty. Others swear that the carved idols shift positions while you sleep, their glassy eyes newly fixed on you come morning.
So, before you decide to come aboard this ship of bug-man worship, you should ask yourself one very important question. Are you devout?
