Megs has put together an ice cream parlor that would have caught my eye even before the war. The blue awning, glass front and little patio make a tidy introduction. She named it What’s The Scoop?, which tells you about all you need to know before stepping inside.

The checkered floor leads past a glass display to a comfortable corner with white seating, a jukebox and a bright heart in the mirror. Even the flavor board has had some thought put into it. Meltdown Mint is a name I’d read twice before ordering, though I suspect Megs enjoyed writing that one.

She has a way of making a small room feel looked after. Plants soften the windows, lamps warm the glass and the furnishings give the place a familiar feel. I see a bit of her mother’s cheerful style in that, and I’m grateful somebody still takes the trouble.
