Finding a skating rink in the Cranberry Bog was a surprise, even after all the things I have seen folks build. Megs calls it Cranberry Ice. A broad pale skating surface sits inside low railings, with strings of lanterns overhead and a white fence around the grounds.

Brick paths lead past carefully clipped trees and chairs to the little building beside the rink. Its red wall panels and angled roof give it a tidy, playful appearance. Inside, she has made room for a warm sitting area with a radio, a lantern and a fireplace. I appreciated that part nearly as much as the rink.

Megs learned to notice a good picture from her mother, and the evening lights here show it. Her father understood how to put a place together, and she seems to have paid attention to him too. I left the skating to steadier legs, but I stayed awhile to enjoy what she had made.
