Rad Rux keeps Phantom GT in a dark showroom, where the lamps pick out its broad nose before the rest of the car comes into view. The body sits low over large black wheels, with a bright grille, round headlights and thin strips of light along the sides. I could not place the showroom on my map.

The car is built from pieces that were never sold as a matching set, yet Rux has persuaded them to share one outline. Behind the cabin, exposed equipment fills the rear deck. The glass and metal catch blue and green light, while the dark room leaves the edges of the machine easy to study.

There is talk of a secret prototype, and I have learned not to repeat every claim I hear around a garage. What I can say is that the work is deliberate. Rux has put as much effort into presenting this car as he has into assembling it, and it shows.
