Hearth & Horizon was a change of pace from Rad Rux's machinery. He has built a low modern home in Burning Springs, with broad windows, dark stone and a flat roof reaching past the walls. A wooden terrace gives the sitting area a clear view across the ground outside.

The rooms are arranged around warm furnishings, a stone hearth and carefully placed plants. Ornamental screens bring pattern to the glass without closing the house off. Outside, clipped greenery and a small fire bowl soften the straight edges of the building.

I remember houses before the war that tried to make every room feel larger by letting the light in. This one reminded me of that sensible idea. Rux has made a home that looks comfortable enough to live in, and after all the upheaval this country has seen, that is no small achievement.
