High Grade Jay cleared a level patch among the trees and laid down a green court where an old logging track once ran. Beside it he raised a lodge from timber, stone, and broad panes of glass, giving the place a clear view of both the court and the Appalachian hills.

Inside, the rooms are simple and comfortable, with a long counter, sturdy chairs, and sunlight moving across the wooden floor. A stone fire nook sits against the rock outside, surrounded by planters and a pair of old flamingo ornaments that somehow survived the years with their dignity mostly intact.

Jay calls it Second Serve Lodge because the court and the house both got another chance after the world fell apart. It is a quiet piece of work, built for fresh air, honest play, and a warm place to sit when the evening turns cold.
