Channel 2077

Before the war, a row of mint Radiation King television sets in a shop window could stop a fellow on his way to work. Georges has brought a little of that feeling back. Behind this brick storefront are old screens, radios, tabletop fans, and enough household odds and ends to furnish a modest start. The checkerboard floor and wooden counter look familiar to me, even if the road outside has forgotten what a smooth surface feels like.

I picture him finding the shop with its stock scattered and its future written off, then setting about putting things where a customer could find them again. Georges does not volunteer much about where he learned his ways, but he knows the value of a second chance. Channel 2077 seems a fitting name for a place holding on to the useful parts of yesterday while the rest of us work out tomorrow.
